The ultimate long-term solution to the overarching physician shortage problem is the creation of more residency training positions. Although such legislation has been proposed and passed, the execution and benefit will both be slow. In the meanwhile, NAAP wants to be able to grow the assistant physician movement nationally so that unmatched medical school graduates all over the country have a feasible opportunity to gain U.S. clinical experience that will strengthen their chances at pursuing a residency training position. We can’t do that successfully without the support of fellow medical graduates and others who are sympathetic to the cause.
